Great Eastern Cutlery: #66 Tidioute Calf Roper - Gabon Ebony

Great Eastern Cutlery is a knife company in Titusville, PA which is committed to building knives like "they used to be." The company was founded by master knife makers Bill Howard and Ken Daniels. Bill Howard was the chief knife designer at Queen for years, so you know you can trust these guys to produce top quality knives.

The serpentine pattern is one of the most collectible pocket knife patterns. Serpentine refers to the gentle curve of the frame.

The #66 Pattern, in all of its forms, is 3 1/2" long closed. It will prove to be one of the most pocketable of all the GEC line.

Specifications

 Closed Length:   3 12
 Blade Length:   2 12" (primary)
 Blade Steel:   1095 Carbon Steel
 Weight:   2.5oz.

This is a truly beautiful knife. Wouldn't it be a shame to get it and be afraid to use it because your keys might scratch it all up?

We highly recommend the KSF PocketSlip for all fine pocket knives:

    This is a great knife

This is a very good knife regarding size, appearance, usefulness and about every aspect of an every day carry knife. I've carried knives like this all my life but was NEVER happy with the edge retention. I'd get a good arm hair shaving edge on my knife and then after one day of average use the shaving edge was gone. I was happy just to have a useabe sharp knife but sometimes I didn't even have that. I've had this knife for a week or so I think. It came pretty sharp but I put a touch up on it. Then I cut up enough cardboard to have a serious dulling effect on the knives I've used since I was 12 years old. The 1095 carbon steel still GLIDED through phone book paper. It would slice into the edge and from heel to tip was still VERY sharp. While not scientific this was a test showing me the performance of 1095 carbon steel. In the past few years I've bought some more modern folders with new stainless as well as non-stainless blade steels. I absolutely love the improvement over the years. That was one reason I strayed away from traditional pocket knives. A lack of edge retention. I have been assured by GEC and 1095 blade steel that I can get good edge retention in a traditional pocket knife. A lot of you guys probably already knew this but for me it's a great piece of info. So add great edge retention to a great pocket knife and you get a GEC Tidioute Calf Roper. I'm betting other GEC knives are just as great. Also, Knives Ship Free seems to be a great knife site to use. I love the videos showing the features of different knives.
