If you have been following KnivesShipFree for very long, you know how much I love our line of PocketSlips. They protect your knife from all the debris in your pocket and more importantly, it distributes the weight of the knife in your pocket.
That sounds like such a silly thing--a knife doesn't weigh that much. But it is a BIG deal. You won't believe how much difference it makes. You just have to trust me on that one.
Our current PocketSlips are available in two sizes. I wanted to come up with a slip that was universal in size and, if possible distributed the weight even better. We eliminated the welt, sized it so it will hold everything from a peanut up to a large Sebenza.
The beauty of the design is in its simplicity. It is a simple, leather envelope--put your knife in it and slide it into your pocket. It disappears. When you need your knife, a quick squeeze of the sides and your knife is delivered into your hand.
The original has some break in time when it is hard to get the knife in and out--this one works perfectly from the first use on most knives. Bigger knives may still require a short break-in.
I hate to say it, but I like this one better than the original!
The PocketSlip is made with top quality, vegetable tanned leather. Cheaper pouches use cheaper chrome tanned leather. Chrome tanned leather can (read WILL) cause corrosion problems with your knives. Vegetable tanned leather doesn’t have any of the harmful chemicals in the hide, so your knives are protected even from the sheath itself. Vegetable tanned leather starts out stiff, but wears very well and forms perfectly to your knife.
