At Bark River, the emphasis is on maximum performance -- real-world performance, in the field. Though Mike Stewart effectively uses a variety of the very best in new knife steels available, most of Bark River's knives employ A-2 carbon tool steel.  Bark River Knives have gained favor among outdoorsmen worldwide for their superior edge-holding, perfect geometry and well performing heat treat.

Mike Stewart has found over his many years as a knifemaker that A-2, combined with his proprietary heat treatment and convex grind, yields an easy-to-sharpen edge with remarkable durability.  He makes this excellent tool steel perform on par with the best of steels on the market.

With the growing demand for the kinfe-specific super steels, Mike Stewart and Bark River Knife and Tool is constently testing and making knives out of CPM3V, S35VN and a variety of other steels.  Mike works magic with all of them.
