Danial Searles was one of the most important figures in the entire Bowie Story. Those who are knowledgeable about the History of the bowie know this Man's Name very well.
Resin Bowie (Jim Bowie's Brother) was the Driving Force and the Literal Designer of all of the first Knives we now call Bowie. The First Bowies including the one used by Jim Bowie on the Vadalia Sandbar Fight that made him Famous were commissioned by his Brother Resin.
It is widely thought that the First Actual Knife - used in the fight was made in Baton Rouge Louisiana by None Other than Daniel Searles.
After the fight Resin did Return to Searles and had him make a much Fancier bowie than the first.
That is the knife we have here - but in a Smaller size.
Searles made a number of them in a number of sizes, but we have not seen one this size, so it needed to be made.
Searles was a Trained Silversmith so it is logical to have him use that talent in designing this - more Artful - version of a bowie knife.
We have taken his Fighter and made it into a Hunter.
Here is the knife in hand

The Original was Housed in a Sheath of very Thin Leather Wrapped over a material much like the Fiber Washer Material we use today for spacers in knives and finished off with a Silver Wrapped Mouth and Tip Protector. Short of making a sheath that cost more than the knife Bark River made a Sheath that would have the same look but still have a Drop Loop and Stud for period correctness.
Here is the knife in the Sharpshooter Sheath.
